So it is a relief to listen to this disc, entitled Vladimir Horowitz A Reminiscence, and hear almost nothing except tiny, tender piano pieces designed by their composers as the quintessence of their lyricism. And it is even more of a relief to hear Horowitz demonstrate an ability to spin a long line, to make a tempo pulse and breathe, to create colors as vivid and radiant as the best of Monet.
Vladimir horowitz: a reminiscence. Artistic Quality: 2. Sound Quality: 8. Some years ago Sony brought out a video documentary called Vladimir Horowitz: A Reminiscence, featuring previously unseen footage of the great pianist, rare documentary material, and narration provided by his wife, Wanda Horowitz Toscanini. The present CD reissue sports the same cover photo montage and the same title, yet its musical contents have nothing whatsoever to do with the video’s concept.
