Switched-On Bach is the first studio album by the American composer Wendy Carlos, released under her birth name Walter Carlos in October 1968 by Columbia Records.
The album was also certified platinum and broke new ground for Electronic music. Following the release of Switched On Bach, Wendy Carlos composed the highly influential and hugely successful soundtrack for the film A Clockwork Orange. Over the years following the original release of Switched-On Bach in 1968, CBS was overwhelmed with requests for more SOB! Thus the sequel, Switched-On Bach II evolved in 1974. Disc: 1. 1. The sixties counter-culture movement was in full swing, giving rise to electronic music that reflected the unrestricted freedom of the era - groovy, but not especially musical. Wendy Carlos, who was born Walter Carlos but later changed her name - and gender - experienced this hostility first hand when she recorded Switched-On Bach. A music and physics student at two Ivy League universities, "Carlos encountered 'alienation and condescension' both students and faculty traditional musical values.
Switched-On Bach is a musical album by Wendy Carlos(originally released under the name of Walter Carlos) and released in March 1968 by Columbia Masterworks Records. Switched-On Bach was one of the first classical albums to sell 500,000 copies.

Bearing Carlos' original name of Walter Carlos, the album was conceived by Carlos not as an attempt to revive Bach but because she was dissatisfied with the use of electronic instruments before 1968 and wanted to use them to play appealing music. The album was a smash, peaking at No. 10 on the Billboard chart, staying at the top of Billboard’s classical chart for three years, being certified platinum, and winning three Grammy Awards.
